Al Bastakiya being planned for a new look
historic building at the Al Bastakiya area dating back
to 1918 is in a process to be renovated by the Dubai
Municipality. The renovation began in December 2001.
building will be turned into a museum housing historic
coins from the Arabic and Islamic era. It is Dubai Municipality's
long-term plan to restore rich cultural, heritage and
architectural landmarks in Dubai to former glory.
Municipality is planning to renovate all the historic
buildings of the Bastakiya area to open more museums,
galleries, restaurants and traditional markets. The
building consists of two floors and one of two entrances
is located in the north. The first floor consists of
two bedrooms, which have traditional windows. There
is a kitchen, separate bathrooms for the bedrooms and
two storerooms, one in each floor. There is a large
room on the upper story, which includes traditional
windows, a hall and a bathroom.
Bastakiya district is a step back in time, loaded with
traditional courtyard houses, bedecked with wind towers,
and has been earmarked for tourist development, with
the construction of a museum, cultural Centre, and an
art gallery that showcases local talent.
